Ghana Under-20 captain Andre Dede Ayew failed to impress officials of German Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin and was denied a contract after playing in the club’s final pre-season friendly last night against FC Lubars.

The 19-year-old scored two goals in his 45 minutes stay on the pitch as the Bundesliga side beat the amateur side 23-0.

Dede will have to revert to French side Olympique Marseille and train with them until he is found a new club.

The Black Satellites captain has been told to look for opportunities elsewhere after coach Didier Deschamps declared him surplus to requirements.

Marseille are seeking an outright buyer for the player even though Hertha would want to monitor him for one year.

Ayew has a contract with Marseille until 2011.

Accra, July 24, GNA – Joseph Agbeko – International Boxing Federation (IBF) Bantamweight Champion has said that his major target now is to unify all titles in his weight division.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Friday, the champion said unifying the belts at his weight category will confirm his credentials as one of the greatest boxers of his time.

Stanbic Bank Invitational Golf postponed

Accra, July 23, GNA – This year’s Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited Invitational Golf Championship scheduled for the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday, July 25, has been postponed. Mr Kwabena Oteng-Aboagye, General Manager of the Achimota Golf Club told GNA Sports in Accra on Thursday, that the postponement was due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the Bank. He said a new date would be announced in December and regretted the inconvenience that might have been caused to golf participants and lovers.

About 120 amateur golfers were expected to compete for honours in the competition which is in its second year. Some of the expectant golfers told GNA Sports that they would take advantage of the postponement to sharpen their strokes to enable them win the trophy come December. 23 July 09

Barusso in Brescia talks

Ahmed Barusso is in talks with Brescia over a possible loan move to the Italian Serie B side.

According to newspaper reports in Italy on Friday suggest that the Ghanaian midfielder’s club AS Roma have been meeting Brescia officials this week over the deal.

The 24-year-old has returned to Roma after an unsuccessful loan spell at Siena last term. Barusso is currently training with Roma but wants to move in search of regular first team action.

The midfielder has struggled to break into the first team of the capital and has already gone out on loan at Turkish side Galatasary

CAF assignment for Referee Lamptey to handle Cup match

Accra, July 27, GNA – Referee Joseph O. Lamptey of Ghana has been assigned by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to handle the Confederation Cup competition match between Primero Augusto of Angola and Harass Hodoud of Egypt in Angola, on Saturday, August 1. Referee Lamptey, according to information reaching the GNA Sports will be assisted by Haruna Ayuba and David Laryea on lines one and two respectively.

Also on the list of referees for the game is Reginanld Lathbridge who will be the fourth referee with Omari Constant of the Democratic Republic of Congo as the Match Commissioner. Referee Lamptey who has been a consistent figure on the international scene has handled a lot of international matches and will leave Ghana for Angola on Tuesday, July 28. 27 July 09

Ishmael Addo released by Indian Club

Ghanaian striker Ishmael Addo has been released by Indian top-flight side East Bengal after just one season at the club.

The 27-year-old, former Hearts of Oak player, signed a one-year contract to join compatriot Yusif Yakubu at the club in December last year.

But he has been released after failing to impress at the club who played him as a midfielder even though he is a striker.

Addo will return to his native Ghana to revive his career possibly with his former club Hearts of Oak where he made his name

Seven Bombers qualify for World Championship

GFA pursue Kwarasey switch

The Ghana Football Association will next week ask FIFA to ratify Adam Larsen Kwarasey’s switch from Norway to Ghana, but are yet to act on the case of Kevin-Prince Boateng and Jeffery Sarpong because they have not formalised their interest.

GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe tells KickOffGhana that the football association will be seeking the switch next week and expects the process to be a formality following the player’s own expression of interest.

The process will involve providing proof of the player’s Ghanaian roots and evidence that he has not appeared for Norway in a competitive senior game.

The 21-year old expressed his desire to play for Ghana as far back as November 2007 when he said “it has always being a dream for me to play in the colours of Ghana”.
